The History of Gunpowder

Gun powder was first invented in 1040 in China for fireworks and other things like that. It was also used in bombs that the Chinese used against the mongols. After the mongols conquered China they used the gun powder bombs during their invasion of Japan. During the time that gun powder was invented the Song Dynasty was in power. However in 1115 the Jurchen Jin Dynasty emerged and destroyed the Lia Dynasty in only 10 years. Soon the Jin and the Song dynasties were at war with one another. The discovery of gunpowder weapons played a large role in the Song Dynasty's naval victories in the battles of Tangdao and Caishi on the Yangtze river.

Service Learning

I think that for service learning i want to do violence and bullying. We should try to raise awareness about it. If we can show how bad bullying and violence are then we might be able to reduce it in our streets. While i was on www.dosomething.org i saw many ideas on how to do this project. Like creating a magazine about gun control issues.

NHD Project

1.) What is my innovation called?

My innovation is gun powder.

2.) When was your innovation adopted or developed?

It was invented around 1040

3.) Who was involved, or, in other words, who were the innovators who created, designed, or implemented the innovation?

It was invented by the Chinese for fireworks, rockets, and other things like that.

4.) What did the innovation look like, how did it work, and what previous ideas, objects, actions, or institutions did it replace?

The innovation looked like black powder.Gunpowder burns but it burns very quickly. It's very reactive with oxygen. When enough heat is applied, either externally or from itself, the reaction progresses very rapidly and the gunpowder "explodes."

5.) What benefits did it provide and to whom?

Because of its low brisance It caused fewer fractures in more usable stone compared to other explosives. It is use full to everyone.

6.) How was it received?

It was received by boat from country to country.

7.) What is “in History”? What else was happening in that time and place that allowed the innovation?

unknown.

8.) How has the innovation changed over time? How have our thoughts about it changed?

Now gunpowder is smokeless and is made without sulfur.
